Literary analysis #2 Maus

1) In the beginning of the book Art goes to his father Vladek's house to interview his father because he is going to write a book about his fathers life and how it was for him during the Holocaust. He begins the story by starting on how he met his mother Anja. Anja is in a wealthy family which helps him start his own textile factory. They live in Poland around the same years as WW2. After the birth Art his mom struggled of post-partum depression. So they go to Czechoslovakia so she can get attended there. Threw out there way there the see what's going on with the Nazi and what there doing in Central Europe. In Czechoslovakia there wasn't really any nazi yet, so they were safe. As they return to Poland his factory has been messed with. Once the war begins Vladek goes to war to fight for Poland. He gets captured as a Prisoner Of War by the Germans. He gets sent to a POW Camp. When he returns back to  Poland the Germans have taken over and they spread like there naziism. He loses his factory. He try's to make a living on the black market. Vladek and Anna were sent to different concentration camps with a lot of Jews, but they got separated and where sent to different ones. They send there boy To stay with a relative in a polish city. The relative dies and feeds poison to Richieu and her own kids so that the nazi would get them. Because of Vladeks skills he manages to get his wife to transfer with him in Auschwitz. The Germans decide to move them with as well as the Jews to a different more extreme camp. He catches the typhus fever and gets moved. There the Germans take him and other prisoner by the Sweden borders to be exacted but the Americans show up so the Germans ran Vladek and the prisoners hide in a farm and get rescued by the Americans. After being saved he returns to Sosnowiec with his wife but then move to Sweden and finally move to the USA and have Art there and live a new life. After hearing his father story Art get closer to his dad and gets even more mad on her mom killing her self. But his dad remarried. In the end Art get suspicious about how after his first wife died he destroyed all her WW2 diaries.
2) The theme of this book I believe is Family. Because throughout the book the family goes threw tough situations in the holocaust such as separating, sent to a ghetto, concentration camps, and thingys like that but they still didn't get split apart. Vladek kept finding ways to get reunited with his wife no matter how hard the sotuation was.
3) I chose this book because it was a story about a WW2 survivor someone that was in the holocaust a survivor of it. The book also seemed intersting because it had picture so it was easy to visualize things. The book kept me reading because it seemed to get intense and realistic.
4) Yes I do find this book realistic because I have learned a lot about the holocaust and the concentration and death camps and also how it was to be in WW2. In my history class we learned a lot about the holocaust at the same time I was reading this book. I can relay to this book because Vladek did a lot to stay with his wife I would do the same if it were any of my family too.
5) The authors tone is curious and interested because he decides to write a novel about his dad and asks plenty of questions.
6)
Foreshadowing: "Then we heard something to give us a little hope..."(62)
Internal conflict: "I stayed up a few days recuperating. But I was restless. How could I manage to sneak across the border to my family?"(63)
External conflict: "two days ago the Nazis marched them to a forest...."(61)
Setting:" so we live and worked a few weeks in the stable until they took us to an even bigger prisoner of war camp."(53)
Motivation: "How could I manage to sneak across the border to my family?"(63)
Flat character: "Orbach! Am I glad to see you!"(63)
Static character: " we should hang you right here on this spot."(51)
Flash back: the whole book is a flashback. Lol
Exposition: "They Marched me to where it was more like me. WAR PRISONERS."(49)
7) Characterization
1- "you have never worked a day in your life!"(51)
I didn't know, of course, that he was communist.(27)
"Like you, Artie, My hands were always very delicate"(51)
"I always kept fat away from communist people."(27)
2-
The author really focuses on Vladek when he becomes a POW.
3- The protagonists is flat in the book is Vladek it's a biography about him.
the antagonist are the Nazis in the story. "Well, Jew, don't worry, well find work for you!"(51)
4-
I feel like I have seen the past of Vladek from this story like all of it. The book makes it feel like if I met him and like if I was there.
ENDURING PARAGRAPH
A memory I will always member is from this book is how Vladek was able to be strong enough to tell the story most people try to forget about the war. Vladek told us how it felt. How hard it was. How much effort it took. The second is when they capture him and send have him in a POW camp and not kill him.
